Adding more AI is not always the best choice, but in our game we choose to develop different AI that will compliment the game play experience. One of the most important experiences to our enemies is prioritization, if the AI is not dynamic enough then the game play will feel flat. With several different behaviors programmed we try to encourage a exciting experience where players have to calculate correctly how to proceed forwardOriginally our AI was lacking in unique behaviors and signs/feedback for the player. This meant that players could constantly predict that each AI was well the same! This became a problem and rather than having a exciting new experience it made the game play feel more like a chore. The newer updated AI allowed for players to accurately predict when AI engaged the player and when they may be attacked. There was a point in our design process where we asked is complete predictability a good thing to our design? This is when we created the suicide bot, it has a total of six different behaviors! This allowed for a certain element of surprise that kept our testers engaged.
